Applications received by April 14, 2023, will receive first consideration. ** The City of Tacoma has an opportunity for a proven professional with great communication and leadership skills to manage the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.&#xa0; The Public Works Department provides critical services for our city and its community members and visitors. &#xa0;The Department&#8217;s employees allow our city to function by tending to our infrastructure needs and improving our surroundings. &#xa0;Safety, cleanliness, and efficient operations of our streets, buildings, and facilities are our primary objectives. As a key member of the Public Works Department, the successful candidate will support the mission of the Department to provide essential public infrastructure and services that enhance the quality of life for the people of Tacoma in a fair, responsive, sustainable, and equitable manner. Under the direction of the Public Works Director and Assistant Public Works Director, the Engineering Division Manager provides leadership and direction to approximately 60 full-time employees, including six direct reports. &#xa0;This position is responsible for the execution of a biennial operating budget of $13.9 million dollars and a capital budget ranging between $75 - $100 million dollars. &#xa0;The programs and services in the Engineering Division include street design/engineering, capital facilities design, project management, construction management and inspection, grant administration, pavement management, development of engineering standards and sidewalks, ADA compliance, bridge operations, engineering/construction surveys, and Local Improvement Districts. &#xa0;Other responsibilities include managing the City&#8217;s Infrastructure Committee and the associated processes required to synchronize the City&#8217;s activities in the right of way with all construction and/or emergency activities. &#xa0; Additionally, this position provides the project management and design/construction support in the delivery of the City&#8217;s transportation and major capital facilities projects.  About You 
 Our ideal candidate will have: 
 
 
 Progressive experience designing and/or reviewing designs for transportation infrastructure including multimodal facilities, intersection geometrics, pavement markings, traffic signs, traffic signals and traffic operations. 
 
 
 Knowledge and understanding of engineering best practices using current design standards, guidelines and manuals&#xa0; 
 
 
 Focus on keeping up to date on evolving transportation engineering best practices, including innovative multimodal design treatments&#xa0; 
 
 
 Strong analytical skills to interpret and draw conclusions from a variety of data sources including but not limited to crash reports, traffic volumes, traffic speeds and other geo-spatial data sets&#xa0; 
 
 
 Excellent communication and collaboration skills&#xa0;as this role mentors&#xa0;engineers and interfaces with multiple internal and external stakeholders&#xa0;

 Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application.
