The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) is seeking a Manager, Government Relations who will be responsible for management of legislative and regulatory issues related to environment, worker health and safety, and other policy matters impacting the specialty chemical industry.
Reporting to the SOCMA Vice President, Legal and Government Relations, the position supports member activities including:
Prepare read-ahead materials and meeting minutes for SOCMA committees
Develop member materials for lobbying efforts
Create informative collateral for SOCMA members including blog posts, one-pagers, guidance documents, articles etc.
Assist in the development of presentations for department speaking engagements and webinars.
Additionally, this will be member-facing position with significant one-off, customized member assistance. The role also includes close collaboration with other departments on marketing, communications, and events/programming.
Analyze regulations and legislation and developing support material
Work with federal agencies on the evolution of existing programs and rulemakings (specifically, working with EPA)
Support task forces and committees comprised of SOCMA members
Draft issue-based white papers, comments, one-pagers, member alerts, etc.
Cross-collaboration internally with other departments on related activities
Support members on regulatory compliance issues
Represent SOCMA in industry coalitions with partner organizations
Contribute to content development for programming and events
Help with membership growth through various association initiatives
Contribute to the development of SOCMA's government relations strategic plan
Support the development and implementation of new internal processes to streamline both departmental and organizational efforts
Other duties as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Experience working on EPA or environmental regulatory matters
TSCA experience a plus
Strong communication skills (both internal and external) – written and verbal
Self-motivated problem solver
Ability to work collaboratively especially in hybrid work environment
Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes
Experience with coalition work (large and small)
Bachelor’s degree in government, public policy or related experience
Trade association experience preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience preferably with a trade association, public affairs, government relations firm, or Congressional office
