The Transportation & Mobility Engineering team is seeking a dynamic Senior Engineer with experience in traffic and transportation engineering.
This position represents a special opportunity to be a part of the team responsible for work under the City Traffic Engineer. This work includes:
Preparing designs to be implemented by our Operations teams for signal timing, signs and markings
Providing subject matter expertise reviews of capital and development projects and traffic control plans
Creating and updating City Traffic Engineer policies, procedures, and standards
Facilitating the Area Engineer program which is responsible for 311 case response
Coordinating with and informing designs of various DOTI programs including Pedestrian Crossing Improvement Program, Bike Program, Neighborhood Transportation Management Program, and Vision Zero Program
This Senior Engineer position will allow you to expand your design experience while contributing to the larger community. Our team works with other City departments, design consultants, community stakeholders, and others to implement improvements in Denver’s right-of-way.?
As a key member of the Transportation & Mobility Engineering team, this exciting opportunity includes the following:
Exposure to a diversity of project types, including corridor redesign, bikeways, pedestrian safety, transit ways, and traffic signals through a subject matter expertise and review role.
Opportunity to develop designs for near term implementation that make a positive impact on Denver through preparation of work orders for in-house implementation.
Challenging project roles, including project management (ex. control of scope, schedule, budget, consultant management, etc.), design, document review, construction support, and staff support/mentorship/supervision.
Influential coordination with internal and external agencies and groups, consultants and contractors, City Council, stakeholders, the community, and others. Occasional after-hours work for community meetings, special events support, and field observations is required depending on assignment needs.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
Progressive experience designing and/or reviewing designs for transportation infrastructure including multimodal facilities, intersection geometrics, pavement markings, traffic signs, traffic signals and traffic operations.
Knowledge and understanding of engineering best practices using current design standards, guidelines and manuals
Focus on keeping up to date on evolving transportation engineering best practices, including innovative multimodal design treatments
Strong analytical skills to interpret and draw conclusions from a variety of data sources including but not limited to crash reports, traffic volumes, traffic speeds and other geo-spatial data sets
Excellent communication and collaboration skills as this role mentors engineers and interfaces with multiple internal and external stakeholders

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Experience: Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license
Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
