Senior Transportation Planner (TPS 4) Union Gap, WA – South Central Region $69,264 - $93,132 Annually
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking an individual with strong analytical abilities, project management experience, and excellent communication skills. As a Senior Transportation Planner (TPS4), you will provide support to regional planning, reviewing local plans, and project delivery efforts. This position leads and supervises staff in various projects and corridor studies, regional planning efforts, coordination with regional planning organizations, local jurisdictions, and agencies, and maintaining positive and constructive working relationships with internal and external customers. To be considered for this opportunity, at least one of the following are required:
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in transportation, urban, regional or land use planning, engineering or natural or physical sciences, or related field AND at least four (4) years’ professional transportation experience involving analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems. (A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of required experience.)
Two (2) years as a Transportation Planning Specialist 3, Transportation Engineer 3 or equivalent classification in city or county agencies with experience in transportation, urban, regional or land use planning; engineering, natural or physical sciences or related study AND professional transportation experience involving analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems.
In addition to one of the above, the following are also required:
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
Experience using a personal computer to develop calculations, documents, spreadsheets, estimates and project scheduling.
Experience conducting public meetings, presenting complex information to a diverse audience, collecting, and recording information, and preparing written documents.
Experience effectively communicates with others both written and orally.
Knowledge of transportation planning principles; related federal, state, and WSDOT policies, standards, and guidelines.
Understanding the Growth Management Act to develop and review plans and make appropriate recommendations for compliance.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Experience leading community outreach efforts and developing stakeholder relations that resulted in tangible coordinated, performance-based planning strategies and solutions.
Experience working with Metropolitan Planning Organizations/Regional Transportation Planning Organizations.
Experience in Active Transportation planning needs and requirements.
Two years of progressively responsible experience in staff supervision, project management, including budget tracking, scheduling, and team management.
Ability to operate safely and legally a state vehicle.
